|Painting the Portrait with James Tennison Date: July 8, 9, 10 and 11, 2017 Cost: $600 plus model fee Skill Level: All levels During this four-day workshop we will be painting a head-and-shoulders portrait from a live model. On the first day I will give a demonstration of my painting procedure and will discuss my approach to capturing a likeness. Emphasis will be placed on the importance of accurate drawing, analyzing the planes of the head, determining correct values, mixing clean flesh tones and controlling hard and soft edges. On the following days workshop participants will paint from the model and I will give personalized instruction and demonstrate as needed. Painting a portrait is no easy task and it is recommended that students have experience with drawing the head and painting in oils, but all who are truly interested in learning will be welcomed. My desire is that all workshop participants enjoy this time painting together and take away some useful principles and insights that will help in their own painting journey.
